The Babonneau Community
The hilly district east ward quarter of Castries marked on the admiralty map of 1888 is known today as Babonneau. It is said that the name Babonneau comes from the French words Barre-Bonne-Eau which in English means “ridge where there is good water”. The Babonneau constituency consists of the longest free-standing ridge in the country. Babonneau is divided into 45 communities, the largest by far in any district in St. Lucia. Communities within Babonneau diligently preserve St. Lucia's cultural heritage.
