Peer Helpers
The Babonneau Secondary School Peer Helpers Club is a group of trained students/individuals who are empowered to assist their peers who might be experiencing some frustrations, worry or concern.
These peer helpers are trained and supervised by the guidance counselors to provide special skills and ability. These skills include:
listening and understanding
decision making (assistance)
tutoring and academic help
problem – solving (assistance)
referrals to counselor
Peer helping empowers adolescents to deal with substance abuse, suicide, loneliness, low self esteem, decision – making / problem – solving and other issues that interfere with students’ development and learning.
Peer helping teaches young people the relevant skills to help combat the impact of negative peer pressure.
